Lavender – Lavandula spp., L. angustifolia (syn. L. officinalis, L. vera, L. spica), L stoechas, L.virdis
Lamiaceae (Mint) Family.
Lavender was used to rid parasites and as an antiseptic for many type of wounds before World War II. It has been used for staph, typhoid, flu viruses, pneumonia, diphtheria, and strep.
Function: Relax Constraint and Calm the Mind
Effects: antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, sedative, stimulant, tonic, aromatic, antidepressant, antifungal, analgesic, nervine, expectorant, diuretic.
Preparation: Tincture, infusion, essential oil
Other Uses: Nebulizer or steam inhalation; sachets to sleep better, ward off moths and bugs; used in birthing rooms, and in death palors.
Edible Uses: Add to sugar or honey for a delightful taste, as a tea, in fudge, crystallized or in candy.
Caution: Do not take in large doses while pregnant as it hasn’t been determined what effects it has on the fetus.
